Abstract :
 We fabricated a high-surface-area dendritic silver electrode by using a dynamic hydrogen-evolution reaction to increase the surface area of the electrode via a simple one-step electro-deposition under the condition of very high cathodic over-potential. The increase in the surface area allows sufficient ion reactions between the electrode materials and the electrolytes. Furthermore, we used the symmetric cell configuration and two different charge–discharge modes; typical charge–discharge and reverse charge–discharge. The reverse charge–discharge enabled the cyclic stability even after 1,000 cycles to increase by the typical charge–discharge, resulting in the stability result of 90.12%. The increase in diffusion resistance and the changes in the morphology and composition of the electrode were confirmed by the analyses with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The results demonstrated that degradation on the stability is induced by the increase of diffusion resistance due to morphological aggregation of the electrode materials in typical charge–discharge of symmetric desalination battery.
